EMT Program Relocates to New Building
The health care-related areas of study continue to grow at the New Castle Career Center, and this growth led to the Center’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program moving to a new location. Over the summer, the EMT program moved to 432 E Broad Street in preparation for the 2019-2020 school year. This was a joint agreement between the city, New Castle EMS, and the Career Center.
The new EMT training location is a much larger space than the program had at the Danielson Center. The extra space allows students to spread out when practicing skills and there is also an in-house practice lab. In addition, the new location has an immense amount of outdoor space for realistic training scenarios.
By moving the EMT Program out of the Danielson Center, the Career Center was able to turn the Center into the main hub for the Health Science Education programs. It gave space in the Danielson Center to add a new CNA program as well.
“This change of location will allow our high school and adult EMT program to grow much larger,” Bill Hufford, EMT Instructor, explained. “It will also give space to provide a higher quality of education to our students, which is what’s most important.”
The EMT program offers hands-on training and fully prepares students to become a licensed EMT. Students who finish this program will leave with EMT skills, public safety knowledge, and training for real-world situations. During a combination of classroom and lab settings, students will have the opportunity to receive twelve training certificates.
“The class will be in the same building with local emergency medical technicians,” Mackenzie Jackson, New Castle Career Center Assistant Director, noted. “This will give students a fast-paced prehospital care learning environment.”
