The Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Indiana Association of Career and Technical Education honored the New Castle Career Center with three 2024 CTE Awards for Excellence. The awards ceremony and reception were held earlier this month at the Willington Fishers Banquet and Conference Center.
The Indiana Awards for Excellence (AFE) program spotlights the outstanding achievements of Career and Technical Education (CTE) students, programs, partners, and counselors throughout the state. The AFE program recognizes various categories, including secondary and postsecondary programming, student accomplishments, career coaching and advising, partnerships, and overall program effectiveness. CTE districts and high school submit nominations for the awards.
The awards ceremony honored the following local individuals:
Award for Excellence for Outstanding Secondary Program of Study/Pathway:
Lori Clone, School Counselor at Blue River Valley Jr.-Sr. High School, received the award for her exceptional efforts with the New Castle Career Center and CTE education at Blue River Valley Schools.
Award for Excellence for Outstanding Secondary Counseling/Career Advising Program:
Greg Dickerson, Machine Trades Instructor at New Castle Career Center, together with Scott Reasoner from Crown Equipment Corporation, gained recognition for their outstanding work in the Precision Machining Program at the New Castle Career Center.
Award for Excellence for Outstanding Secondary CTE Student:
Zac McAbee, a Blue River Valley High School senior, recently completed the New Castle Career Center’s CDL Program, a partnership with Ivy Tech Community College. His outstanding achievement in this program earned him the honor of Outstanding Secondary CTE Student award.
