Don’t Miss Restaurant Wars at New Castle Career Center

Experience a culinary event like no other while supporting the area’s next generation of culinary professionals. New Castle Career Center’s (NCCC) Culinary Arts program and Graphic Design program are hosting the annual Restaurant Wars on March 19. Restaurant Wars is a yearly tradition designed to excite and challenge the NCCC culinary students. They work alongside their teammates to create a restaurant experience that cannot be duplicated.

What makes this event like no other? Every year, the students develop a different theme, and the same theme is never repeated. Past themes include food trucks, international cuisine, decade dinners, and more. The theme for 2020 is “Movie Genres.”

Seven teams will battle in this year’s “war.” The juniors in the class are responsible for planning, concept development, and food. Seniors take care of creating mocktails and serve as team captains. The Graphic Design students collaborate with the teams to create branding to pair with the menu and concepts.

“Restaurant Wars is such a wonderful experience,” noted Alyssa Flockhart, New Castle High School Senior. “It really broadens our culinary horizons.”

This experience continues to grow each year, with last year’s program attracting approximately 400 attendees. Due to this growing number, the students are getting extensive training in cooking for large groups. They also get to implement customer service by serving guests.

“Having so many people support the NCCC and the programs is a great feeling,” added Robin Rinehart, Culinary Arts Instructor. “Watching the culinary students work so hard on this event is amazing.”

Tickets for Restaurant Wars can be purchased at the NCCC office or on the culinary arts Facebook page. The Culinary Arts career program is for juniors/seniors who have a passion for food, and applications are still being accepted for the 2020-21 year.
