The New Castle Career Center held a Signing Day on May 17 to honor students from the Precision Machining and Welding Program. Signing Day is a day to recognize students who will be working as full-time employees with their internship employer, or who will be going on to continue their education with the INFAME program from Vincennes University and working with their employers to complete their degree.  

New Castle Career Center Director, Mackenzie Jackson, noted that “this program is a celebration of the partnership between the sending high schools, Career Center Instructors, generous and dedicated employers, and hard-working students.”

Welding students recognized during this event include Adrian Adkins, Kaleb Hedges, Chase Mingle, Dillon True, Andrew Evans, and Lane Neal. Machine Trade students were Benjamin Jacobs, Elias Hamm, Michael McDaniel, and Alec Ramsey. Connor Pyle will be participating in the INFAME program through his employer. 

The Career Center is thankful for the committed employers who work with the students to develop their skills. Some of our partnering employers are Major Tool and Machine, Magna Machine, Crown, Nixon Tool, Indiana Bridge, Hoosier Feeder, Metal Art, TS Tech, and Nestle.

Last month, students from the New Castle Career Center’s Health Science Education Program attended the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Convention. The Competitive Events Program took place at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. This is an annual competition designed to motivate HOSA members and provide a system for recognizing the competencies developed by members. 

Throughout the competition, students put their knowledge to the test in several different relative subject areas, including: healthcare issues, human growth and development, medical terminology, biomedical laboratory science, clinical specialty, nursing assisting, pharmacy science, and public health. In addition to testing their comprehension of the subject matter, they also have a chance to display the important skills being taught to them during the course of the program. A few of the skills they are tested on are: health career photography, interviewing skills, speaking skills, job seeking skills, researched persuasive writing, and creative problem solving.

Instructor Angie Talbott shared, “I was so excited to be back in person for HOSA SLC. A great time was had by all. I couldn’t be prouder of this group of students and how they did in their individual competitions and professionally representing NCCC.”

Several students also qualified for the International Leadership Conference, which will be held in Nashville, TN June 22-25, 2022.
