New Castle Career Center Inducts Students into National Technical Honor Society

By Mackenzie Jackson,

On Tuesday, March 14, New Castle Career Center spent the day celebrating students in a ceremony for the National Technical Honor Society. This year, the school broke a record with 114 students inducted into NTHS during their first year of a two-year program. In addition to these first-year students, 99 students received inductions into the National Technical Honor Society as Program Completers, and of this group, 49 extended their membership for a 2nd year.

To be considered for this honor, students must meet specific criteria. Students must first be recommended for membership by their career program teacher. In addition to a recommendation, students must also carry a B+ average in their career program for the first semester. Seniors must also have a B average at their home school. Juniors must maintain a B- in all classes taken through the past semester. All must maintain attendance that reflects good employability skills.

Once grades and attendance are verified, home school counselors confirm that students exemplify the standards of NTHS. Those standards include a desire to pursue a career in their course of study, academic achievement, honesty, dependability, responsibility, high-quality task performance and pride in work performed, cooperation and ability to work well with others, interest in learning, initiative, leadership, and citizenship.

Any senior student inducted into NTHS will automatically enter a random drawing for a $1,000 Jon Poteat scholarship.

The number of students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society this year speaks to the hard work and dedication Career Center students demonstrate.
